History - page 1 of 2

The orchestra started in February 2002 and originally met at Michael House School in Shipley. As it was formed with just stringed instruments, it was known then as the String House Orchestra.

With a handful of members to begin with, the String House Orchestra (or SHO as it became known) was founded by Richard Fitton-Perkins and was open to anyone who just wanted to play for their own enjoyment. The SHO grew and in summer 2004 held an extremely successful three day music course. This involved musicians of all ages practising a variety of pieces in various different groups and then performing them on the final day in an informal concert for friends and family.

As the SHO expanded, it was soon welcoming new additional groups who all met each Wednesday evening. These included a starter string group, a wind band, and a guitar group. The full orchestra was running strongly and there was soon a need to move the rehearsals from Michael House School into a new venue. The SHO moved into St. Lawerence's Parish Church in November 2004.
