The Full House Orchestra is growing.
We always loose a few players in the Summer, (careless of us we know) as they head on to further education or have work commitments after finishing their education. This year we bid farewell to Josh our French Horn player who had been with us for a number of years. Also leaving us were a couple of players who had joined us through Derby University. Now well into the new term we have welcomed a lot of new players. We have a floatilla of flutes, a cacophony of clarinets, a clutch of cornets, a set of saxophones and a tremendous trombone.
We always welcome new players and have openings in all the string sections, so varnish up that violin or viola, charm your cello and dust off your double bass. Come along on a Wednesday evening and see for yourself what a friendly bunch of players we are.
Two concerts in May 2011
Our first was the annual Piano Recital held on Saturday 7th May. This, as always was a fabulous evening, with Robin's
pupils playing solos and the string section from the orchestra opening and closing the concert. See our events page for a few photos.
Our next event was a full concert with 100% turnout from our musicians. This concert followed closely behind our February one and gave our friends from Derby University a chance to play in our concert before they went off to their home towns or countries. For a full report visit our events page.
Our winter concert held on Friday 11th February was a tremendous success. Go to our events page for a concert report and photos.
Thanks to Tom for his help with conducting over the past year. Tom's help has enabled Robin to take a turn at playing viola some weeks. We are going to be splitting into wind and strings this term for half of each rehearsal session.

Winter Concert 2008
The orchestra put on a fantastic concert last winter at St. Lawrence Parish Church.
The programme included tunes from the films Great Escape and
Chariots of Fire
and from the animated film The Snowman, they played Walking in the Air.
Other pieces in the programme were Swedish Rhapsody, Habenera, Pavane and Blue Danube.
In the mood was not written into the programme but the orchestra agreed to play it,
this proved to be a good decision as they played it really well.
The finale was Sailor's Hornpipe which had the audience tapping away.
The programme also included a selection of Solos and duets.
Well done to:
Amy Measures
Daisy Wright
Heather Woodruff
Laura Gilmore

Also well done to Emily Bowler and Michael Cousins for their violin duet.

We also welcomed Too Many Fs recorder group, back to play for us.
We would like to thank our guests who came to play with the orchestra,
Deena on bassoon, Heather on flute and Robert on piano.
Our Winter Concert was a great success.
